jobs: more ohsu standardized patient gigs: i really, really love these. i also applied to the ppcw call center with no luck. i'm still waiting for the census to contact me.... *cross fingers*
art: sven & i attended white bird's production of hubbard street dance chicago, which was really impressive, especially the last piece with the amazing fence. sven and i had two completely different reactions to one of the dances, though, which i thought was pretty funny. we also attended the Portland Art Museum's free friday night to view the "disquieted" show -- which i did not actually find all that disquieting, but it did have a bill viola piece i saw at the getty and sven was delighted to see a ron mueck piece. then we went to the open studio show at city hall because we know so many people there.
media: lost, alias, 9.99, go, fear(s) of the dark, bamboozled, doubt. i gave up on torchwood; unless "children of earth" really blows me away, i won't be watching the next season. dr. who almost killed me with stupidity early in the season, but i really liked donna and very much wished they had kept her. the way they left her storyline was the worst possible ending for me.
bike: i'm still biking almost every day, even in the rain. i've been testing a poncho not entirely successfully. but i feel pretty confident in biking anywhere within a 9-mile radius, including the parkrose peace labyrinth, dress barn, mt. hood community college, blue lake and all the way up the 205 bike path until it ended at the oregon border. heck, i even thought about "reach the beach," but i just don't know yet if the bike will do a 28-mile trip without recharging. my longest trip has been 23.1 miles, to celebrate the arrival of michaelmas' ipad, but i got to charge her a bit while i was there. i have been SO excited about google adding bicycling directions to its maps; i can only hope the iphone adds it as a layer. still, i often check bycycling.org, too, and compare the routes. sadly, my very favorite bike store was vandalized; i hope it is not too discouraging, because the guy that runs it is the nicest guy. (vaguely related in a transportation fashion: one night while visiting michaelmas trixie got a "turtle," an error where she will not move or only move slowly, but it was only happening in reverse. it finally went away after turning the car on and off a few times and waiting.)
events: jalex birthday at ned ludd, pi day, rebel's housewarming. we also went on our traditional equinox walk on powell butte; the weather could not have been more cooperative. i brought graffiti & trash tools this time; it turned out there wasn't much graffiti, but the spots i cleaned were deeply satisfying. the problem is graffiti on wood posts & benches, so next time we may bring some sandpaper. but there are still trees damaged from a particularly vehement round of graffiti in 2007 i can't do anything about.
food: i got hooked on drinking vinegars the few times i've had them at pok pok or ping, so when i discovered our local asian grocery store carried some, it gave me a good excuse to check it out and find a way to bike there. i picked up plum ("Plum aroma, sweet and sour taste that moisture your throat and quench your thirst") and strawberry ("Scent of strawberry is just like the scent of happiness and sweet love"). i also -love- the sandwiches at a local bahn-mi place, best baguette. also, sven took me to sweet tomatoes, a restaurant i knew as "souplantation" in california. and while i still love making the ny times no-knead bread recipe (now i almost always make a rosemary loaf w/ our own rosemary), i burned my hand pretty badly on the bowl over a week ago and it still hasn't healed.
