july was a huge blur, filled with visits and travels and events and holidays and celebrations.
todd’s birthday started things off, then the 4th of july -- which we celebrated by watching the fireworks from dayna’s boat.
sven’s parents visited and we kept them busy: playing portland bingo, saturday market, trek in the park, farmer’s market, historical bike tour, visiting jalex & abe at her new house & neighborhood, cathedal park jazz festival. we ate our way through kenny & zuke’s, toro bravo, ringler’s annex, ten 01, st. john mcmenamin’s & tin shed.
then leeann visited! we started slowly at loyly & broder, and then i took her on a bike ride to oaks park, where we got a free trip on the carousel. she managed to come during the bridge festival, so we took the opportunity to take the last bridgewalk tour and dance on the morrison bridge while traffic was stopped. the tour guide asked if i was the “famous gretchin lair” at the end of the tour: she’s been using a photo of me & sven on her promotional materials since the last tour we were on! however, we were all disappointed by the lights on the hawthorne bridge. we took leeann to trek in the park, too, where we saw philip. on the last morning i took her to pix high tea before dropping her off at the airport.
when i got back home, sven’s parents had returned! we all hopped in the car and headed to cannon beach. i used a relief band for the first time: whoah! this trip began my birthdaypalooza as sven’s parents treated us to hotel & dinners & gifts. funcycles are a tradition for sven & me, and we rented some for sven’s parent’s, too. haystack rock during a foggy night is beautiful. toby got new shoes and has been able to stand on his own for the first time! the only thing that could have made the trip more perfect was some extra reading time on the beach, but otherwise we had a good time.
in between all that i managed to attend another holgate bike lane meetings, sunday parkways, an ebike meetup, the ramona street fair, housesitting for pdxmph, ended my census job, worked with ohsu’s simulation nursing center (more jobs like this, please!), and attended the video gong show at the know (sven sadly got gonged by an animation guy with a grudge against claymation who actually grabbed another judge’s sign to invoke the gong).
in the meantime we watched big man japan, alice in wonderland. i’ve also been trying free ibook classics on the iphone, which got me through louisa may alcott’s ouvre, jane eyre and wuthering heights.
