You mean the century 16 theater? That's the only place i go to watch movies anyways. That's an easy choice.
You can't get a cable modem?
yeah, century 16. but the regal fox sometimes carries movies i want to see.
through comcast? eh. & we don't have cable, which makes it more expensive. besides, i prefer dsl to cable (no network effect), but qwest is the only dsl provider here.
Expensive yes, but my cable modem is so much faster than DSL it's no contest. I have never had any "network effect" problems, and I've had cable for several years. Plays well with my wireless net too.

what's "network effect"?
and i agree that cable is much, much faster than DSL. I tried my neighbor's DSL connection and found it painfull. basic cable is something like $12. you get a $10 discount if you have cable tv and modem.
man, two votes for cable.
but we don't want tv cable at all. just the slick shiny tubes that delivers our internet drugs, please. does anyone have a strong anti-cable bias? the network effect has been my strongest argument, but i'm crumbling... the thought of sven downloading movie bits all in one chunk (rather than stopping & starting) is a powerful lure. (alex: each dsl line goes directly to your house, but cable is shared within a "neighborhood," however that's defined by the cable co. so technically, you're all on a subnet. even ignoring privacy issues, if everyone hopped on at once and download movies, your bandwidth would suffer).
Our dsl doesn't seem to be that much slower than my connection at the university (which is fast, fast, fast), and our cable co. is Time/Warner and we hate to giving them $$.
But if we had your dilemma, the cable co. might be the lesser of 2 evils. Have you checked out the owners of your cable company? They might be more despicable -- although it's hard to see how. and the Word Verification for the moment is "padafoxd" -- kinda has a nice ring to it.
comcast is owned by ralph roberts & his son, brian. if i have to give money to someone, i'd rather give it to them than anschutz. but sven points out that our phone is also qwest, so it's not like we can get rid of anschutz completely.
