11:07 AM: our house is a very very very fine house [#] [3]
so sven's buying the house we're living in & the studio attached to it. to celebrate, jalex & mari brought over a ceremonial graham-cracker house, which was both sweet and amazingly photo-realistic ;) ...candy house: actual house:
very cool. thanks, guys! we'll have to have a formal "house adoption" party after all the paperwork is done around may 01.
eep! i never thought i would be involved in a home ownership process. it makes me nervous to be responsible for the house & this giNORmous loan. and it means we'll be staying in this area for at least 3 years -- as you know, i'm ambivalent about the neighborhood, in part because of the neighbors and in part because we're so far away from everything (including michaelmas!). but ready or not, here we go...!
One other thing -- you will wake up one day in the near future to something broken, and you will roll over and say, "Oh, I'll have to call the landlord about that," and then your eyes will open wide and you will exclaim, "But hey, I AM the landlord!"
(This happened to us a month after we bought our house -- the a/c went out. It was a minor repair, thank Hestia.)
susan: yes, that's the part that worries me about home ownership. i wish there was an easy way to find trustworthy people to come fix things! and what about all the things we hadn't gotten around to telling our landlord yet because they seemed sort of trivial and he's not a very responsive guy? (e.g., the stripped screw in the door handle, the blind bits that always fall out of place, etc).
