Ben and I carved pumpkins this weekend and I paused to think about how likely it is they'll be smashed. I decided "very," considering how brief the life expectancy of numerous other yard ornaments has been.
So then I thought about how I felt about that and realized that I was o.k. with it. They'll just rot sooner or later, anyhow. So maybe if you thought about the smashing as part of the natural lifecycle of a pumpkin it would seem ok? And make sure to take pictures before they get smashed.
mph: yeah, after the last round of thefts i came to terms with the ephemeral nature of everything i left on our porch. this one stung because they were whole pumpkins (not carved) that i grew in the garden. we figured they'd be safe till halloween. i suppose it's less about the result (smashed pumpkin) and more about the violation/vulnerability (people who want to destroy things coming to my door.)
susan: thanks!
Sorry about the pumpkins. People really can suck.
How was Stumptown? I've never been able to attend, but it has always looked like it would be a lot of fun.
thanks, philip. i like stumptown. this time it was at the convention center, which was pretty cool. but i'm more into the smaller independent comics (like ones at reading frenzy or the IPRC). there were a couple of options for more major distributors (including Cosmic Monkey), but if that's your cup of tea, stumptown won't satisfy you.
