Funny. I had a rude pollster last night, too. He got mad at me when I told him 8:30 was kind of late for a poll, and then he snorted in my ear.

There's a chance it wasn't a real poll but a push-poll, which happened to me last week. They aren't calling to get your opinion, they're calling to insert factoids in your ear in the form of a question, and as such are less likely to be professional pollsters or their employees and more likely to be partisan volunteers. The one I got hit with last week was full of specific dollar amount assertions about the cost of Kulongoski's, environmental proposals, but fairly vague assertions about Saxton. Like (but not exactly) this: Q: Gov. Kulongoski's emissions initiative will cost taxpayers up to $1,000 per new vehicle extra. Does that make you more or less likely to vote for him? Q: Ron Saxton said he'll work hard to protect the environment. Does that make you more or less likely to vote for him? There was some notable cognitive dissonance on the part of the questioner when I said I was happy to pay more for the several items that involved environmental and educational spending ... like you're supposed to just WANT that stuff in the form of a vague assertion, but not want to actually PAY for it. |
