doing my part to fight phishing:
when i got a recent amazon phish, i checked where the link was going and poked around the server a bit. it was a residential adsl account on sbcglobal.net, so i sent the help desk the link and told them they probably had a phisher on their network. i never heard back from them, but the server doesn't respond anymore, so i think they must have shut it down. yay!
This seems like a good time to mention OpenDNS. It's a nice enough service on its own, just optimizing DNS lookups and offering typo correction that doesn't break the 'net, but it also operates PhishTank, a phishing tracker/blacklist. So if you visit a site you suspect is phishy, you can report it, then other OpenDNS/PhishTank users get a warning if they try to visit that site.

The service has passed the smell test from the likes of Ars Technica and others. Unfortunately there's some issue going on with Google because of a deal Google and Dell have made to provide their own typo-catching service that preempts OpenDNS. So OpenDNS has some sort of proxy setup going on for Google queries that's mostly transparent but has had some rough patches.
Anyhow ... worth looking into for the phish-fighting stuff, and the worst you can do with the DNS optimization is probably a draw with whoever your current ISP is (Easystreet?)
